Methamphetamine, an illegal substance also known as "meth," "speed," "crank," "crystal," and "ice," is a potent synthetic drug that is a stimulant of the central nervous system. The effects of meth are similar to those of cocaine. It gives the user a "rush" or intense feeling of pleasure that lasts longer than cocaine. Meth is an increasingly popular drug that can be injected, snorted, taken orally, or smoked. Long-term use leads to physical dependence. Meth may give a person periods of high energy and rapid speech. Many chronic meth users also experience severe depression, delusions, hallucinations, paranoia, and violent behavior.

When a meth lab is discovered, the local law enforcement agency and/or the Division of Criminal Investigations, is responsible for making arrests and seizing the lab. Evidence is removed from the site, and chemical hazard consultants are brought in by law enforcement to remove containers of hazardous chemicals related to the operation of the meth lab. Officials may also screen indoor air.

Is Pre-Testing Really Necessary?

Not all states require pre-testing, but most regulated states require post-testing. Pre-Testing allows us to determine how contaminated a home or structure is prior to cleaning, through the laboratory results. After decontamination (clean up), post-testing ensures that all areas of the contaminated home or structure is clean and free of any meth residue.

If pre-testing is not conducted, one has make the assumption that the entire home or structure is contaminated or the levels of contamination may be below the state's threshold level and decontamination is not necessary. Having complete lab results following a comprehesive inspection, will enable us to determine what areas need decontamination thereby possibly saving you, the owner, thousands of dollars.

Meth Lab Testing Process

Bio-Meth Busters will perform a preliminary site assessment - this will include a physical inspection of the property conferencing with the law enforcement officers involved in the removal of the meth precursors and pre-test wipe sampling to establish the levels of meth residue.

Once the results of the lab testing are returned, a copy is probided to the property owner along with our initial assessment report and estimate for decontamination of the property.

Once the structure has been decontaminated, post-testing is conducted to ensure that all areas are clean and free of meth residue. Post-testing is done in each room and lab results are provided to determine the contamination levels in each room.
